You are designed for a purpose and you’re perfect for that purpose. God created each and every one of us for a unique and special purpose. He has a distinct plan and purpose for your life. And that purpose has to be fulfilled by you. You might admire your Pastor, prophet, mentor, parent or whoever it is you look up to. But before you get carried away in trying to be like them, remember your purpose is unique. And you are perfect for it.
I just love how God repeatedly teaches us this lesson through the various stories in the Bible. When God called Moses to fulfill his calling/ purpose, he came up with five ‘good reasons’ to justify his refusal to accept God’s purpose for his life. As many of us do, Moses had many excuses before God on why he could not fulfil his calling. First, Moses’ response to his calling was to say, “Who am I”. He questioned his qualifications to lead the children of Israel out of Egypt.
Exodus 3:11, “And Moses, said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?”
Second, Moses pleaded lack of knowledge in that he did not even know God’s name and what to tell the Israelites. Exodus 3:13 tells us how Moses questioned God about his lack of knowledge to fulfill his calling. He felt that he did not know God enough to pursue His purpose.
Exodus 3:13, “And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?”
Moses’ third excuse to God was that he did not believe he had the power to fulfill the calling that God had told him to do. Moses did not believe he could persuade the Israelites that God had actually appeared to him.
Exodus 4:1, “And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice: for they will, say The Lord hath not appeared unto thee.”
Moses’ fourth excuse to God was that his speaking and leadership abilities were lacking. Leading the people of Israel could not be his calling because he was not eloquent of speech, nor of a quick tongue.
Exodus 4:10, “And Moses said unto the Lord, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.”
Moses fifth excuse was that he did not desire to fulfill his calling and lead the Israelites out of Egypt. Moses basically asked God if someone else could pursue the purpose that God had revealed to him.
Exodus 4:13 But Moses said, “Pardon your servant, Lord. Please send someone else.”
Jeremiah
Jeremiah 1:6 tells us how Jeremiah tried to avoid his own calling as a prophet. He felt inadequate as a public speaker. He felt inferior, inexperienced, and intimidated by the size of the task to which God was summoning him. And yet God knew he was perfect for the great work He had for him.
Jeremiah 1:6, “Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.”
When King David was deeply touched by how he lived in a beautiful palace and yet the ark of the covenant of the Lord was housed in a tent, he thought of honoring God by building Him a temple. David’s desire to build a house for the Lord was noble, but God did not give in. Though his plans were good, they were not in line with God’s purpose for David’s life.
When Moses wanted God to change his purpose, He did not give in. When Abraham asked God to bless Ishmael and make him the promised son, God did not give in. When Jeremiah wanted God to change His purpose for his life He did not give in. When King David wanted to build a temple for the LORD, He did not give in. God does not change the purpose of a man. He can change your name from Abram to Abraham, Jacob to Israel, or Saul to Paul but your purpose remains. So pursue your purpose!
The voice of the enemy might fool you to believe that you are not ready; unworthy; unqualified or unable to accomplish. Maybe you do not want to do it and God’s purpose for your life is not in line with what you had planned for your life. But listen to what the LORD says. He wants you to know that you are able to do anything through Him who strengthens you. He purposely created you to fulfill your calling and no one else can do it better than you. You are able and you are capable. You are perfect the way you are. Your talent may appear inadequate, but God always equips those He calls. He has given the promise of provision Jer. 1:18-19. So pursue your purpose and live a fulfilling life!
